Everyday I see clients dealing with emotional eating, which lead me to write the book Secrets to Controlling Your Weight Cravings and Mood. Anxiety and depression may be the result of shortages of key brain neurotransmitters, one of which is called GABA, which can be restored naturally. Give the brain the amino acids it needs and feel your mind start to glow again. If you're one of the millions who suffer from anxiety or depression, the next time you reach for the Valium or Prozac; consider amino acids as a safe alternative. These protein building blocks may be the key to reversing long-standing anxiety and depression.
Mood, behavior, and brain biochemistry are intricately linked. Depression and anxiety may be the result of flawed message-sending in the brain, flawed because key brain chemicals called neurotransmitters are in short supply. They're short because the body's amino acid pool, from which they're made, is itself low (dieters and vegetarians are often lacking certain amino acids). For example, deficiencies in the amino acid GABA are strongly correlated with states of anxiety.

By using a theraputic dose of GABA you don't get the serious side effects commonly associated with pharmaceutical medications. These can typically include a decrease in metabolism, blurred vision, increased heart rate, low blood pressure, nausea, headaches, constipation, memory loss, impaired concentration, and brain fog. In contrast, the clinical use of amino acids produces no side effects or health risks and generates better, more lasting healing results.
Dosage Recommendation:
• Up to 500 mg 3 times daily on an empty stomach
• 1 gram before bed can increase human growth hormone
Thank you very much for this informative post! I knew in my protocol for HCG diet it said Amino Acids were important and to date I haven't added any. Going to town today and will pick some up:)
ReplyDeleteAh! I'm so glad I searched for this! I am taking 750 mg before bed (on an empty stomach), I'm going to try to do that morning and night (my scoop is 1500 mg, so I use half a scoop, might have to get a different scoop... I found it in bulk)... I find I still eat my emotions at times (mostly when I am stressed with a dash of frustration), but at least now it's with Maria-Food and not peanut butter on whole wheat bread! ♥
ReplyDeleteI have been suffering from General Anxiety (hypochondria type) for 4 years now and it´s hell. Some times I feel I´m going to loose control, to go crazy. I have had such severe symptoms that it´s scary. My doctor put me on medication but I hate them. So no more medication. I will try the GABA supplements and see if this works. I still have hope, right? It´s been 2 weeks since I´ve switched to this diet and I´m loving it. Specially when finding such a GREAT blog like this one, whith so much helpful info and ideas for cooking. Congrats Maria, you have done an AMAZING job. I hope you keep at it for ever :) I thought I had a "healthy diet" before, with whole foods and exercise, but apparently I was braine washed like everybody else lol.
ReplyDeleteAny other ideas for severe anxiety? I whish I can just feel "normal" again and feel "emotionally healthy" as well. Please help :( Thanks again Maria for all that you do in this blog.
Low progesterone levels can be a cause also, you should get your levels checked. Low iron also, but get a ferritin test to see if iron is getting into your cells. Also take fish oil and probiotic. To know more for sure I would have to do a health assessment. :)
DeleteWould this book be good for binge eating as well?
ReplyDeleteYes it is great for that as well. :)
